Who I am and Why I created this planner

My name is Kirsty and I’m homeschooling my 7 year old twins again in 2023. Long story short, when our builders screwed us around with contracts so we couldn’t get zoned for the new school, we jumped into homeschooling. Although it was not our first choice, it has been the best thing we’ve ever done. So much so I’m continuing again this year!

I was terrified of the moderator meeting. I am not a teacher and the curriculum is so verbose and ‘fluffy’ it was overwhelming trying to work out what I needed to cover. And that was just in year 2!  Thankfully I met some amazing HS families who helped me work out what was required for the year, which I bundled up into my planner which our moderator loved!

I am an extremely organised person. I cannot function well if my workspace/home is not semi organised (note organised does not always mean clean!). So naturally, I carried the same philosophy over to homeschool. From the start I was working on a system to save myself time and mental energy so that on any given (usually busy!) day, I could open up the planner and have an easy checklist to follow.

I also run my business called Thorn Creative (websites, graphics and other online creative ventures).

What happens when a highly organised digital creator takes on homeschool? A simple, easy to use planner gets made!
I have had friends tell me I need to create this for quite some time. But it wasn’t until I had a huge amount of interest since describing it in a comment thread on the Perth Homeschool group that I really considered putting it together for other HS families to use.

My original planner from last year had no labels, I knew what went where (see screenshot to the right) and it changed a bit over the year as we found our groove. It wasn’t super pretty, but it did the job well enough. With so much interest, I’ve spent the time to make version 2.0 better (certainly prettier!).

I’m asking a small amount to help cover the cost of the software purchased for this specific purpose and also my time. If you don’t love it, I’ll offer a full refund within 30 days.

I have included full instructions of how to use this along with a few different cover designs. I hope that you find this helpful! I loved creating this planner, so if you have any special requests for future versions please let me know!

Thank you,
Kirsty
